Arctic Foxes in Winter
3.02.-8.02.2027

This exclusive 6-day Arctic Fox Photography Workshop is designed for serious photographers with a passion for wildlife. If you are committed to spending long hours in the cold and are ready to embrace rugged Arctic conditions for the chance to capture the elusive beauty of the Icelandic Arctic Fox, this workshop is for you.

Workshop Overview: Unlike typical photography tours, there are no unnecessary stops or tourist distractions here. Every moment is dedicated to photographing Arctic Foxes and immersing ourselves in the wild winter environment. We will travel deep into the remote Hornstrandir Nature Reserve by boat, where we will spend our days directly in the foxes' territory. Because the foxes are protected by a hunting ban here, they are less fearful of humans and often approach our cabin, allowing us to maximize our valuable daylight hours for photography (and the evenings for Northern Lights)

Itinerary:

  • Day 0 (Feb 2.2027) - Ideally you should arrive a day before the boat leaves (not part of the Workshop)

  • Day 1 (Feb 3, 2027): Meet in Isafjordur. We will take a privately chartered boat for an approximately 45-minute ride to Hornstrandir, followed by a Zodiac landing on the beach at Sletta. First photography session begins in the afternoon.

  • Day 2-5 (Feb 4 - Feb 7, 2027): Full days dedicated to tracking and photographing the foxes. We will look for both the rare white and the more common blue morphs directly around our cabin and along the rugged coastline and surrounding mountains.

  • Day 6 (Feb 8, 2027): Final morning photography session at the Sletta bay. In the afternoon, we will transfer by boat back to Isafjordur.

My Approach:

The terrain is challenging, temperatures can drop to -10°C, and the focus is entirely on maximizing your time to get the best shots also in blizzards or freezing winds. A warm, historic cabin and delicious homemade Icelandic meals will be provided, but this workshop is absolutely not for those seeking an easy, 5-star luxury experience with hot showers. If you're ready for a true Arctic adventure, you'll be rewarded with an unparalleled and authentic wilderness experience and unique pictures of the Foxes.

Why This Workshop is Unique:

  • Small Group, Big Impact: With a maximum of just 5 participants, we guarantee personalized attention and ensure we don't overwhelm these sensitive animals in their natural habitat.

  • More Space, Better Shots: The small group size means every photographer has plenty of space in the field to position their gear and get clear shooting angles without getting in each other's way.

  • White and Blue Morphs in One Location: While the white morph is globally the most common, in Iceland the "blue" (brown) morph dominates. Sletta is one of the very few locations where you have a great chance to photograph both color variations living in the same territory.

  • Personalized Fit: Before booking, we'll make sure this workshop is the right fit for you. Through a short Zoom, Facetime call, we'll discuss your photography goals, expectations for the Arctic, and answer any questions you may have.
